Katy Growth in the North Brings New Schools and Major Retail Center

September 26, 2024

The greater Katy area continues to grow in residential and retail developments as well as new schools. A new center will surpass LaCenterra in size at completion and construction is well underway.

Major New Katy Ratain Center
As the greater Katy area, especially the northwest quadrant, continues to grow so does developments such as retail centers and new schools. Phase 1 of the Elyson Town Center is underway and set to debut in summer 2025.

The northwest corner of 99 and FM 529 is a perfect spot for a retail center as it is just in front of the Elyson community which plans to go from just under 3,000 homes in 2024 to 6,000 in 2029. The residential community is a 3,642-acre master-planned community being developed by Brookfield Property Developments. The residential growth drives the need for the business development.

The Elyson Town Center is being developed by Realty 1 Partners and Phase 1 is a planned 290-000 square foot mixed use space complete with two restaurant parks and a shared green space for community activities. Currently contracts have been signed by Shipley’s Do-Nuts, Akashi Sushi, Smoothie King and DECA Dental.

Negotiations are ongoing with Chipotle, Dave’s Hot Chicken, First Watch, and Tune Up Manly Salon. Many other eateries, medical users, and shopping retailers are in negotiations and will remain confidential until contracts are signed.

Elyson Town Center is directly across from Katy’s newest Target that has a CVS Pharmacy inside. On the same side is also Burlington, the newly opened Whataburger and Chick-fil-A. Coming soon is a Taco Cabana, Visionworks, and Mattress Firm. HEB also owns land adjacent to Burlington but plans of breaking ground have yet to be released.

Some new businesses have already opened in front of what is to be the Elyson Town Center such as an urgent care, Taco Bell, Salata, and McDonald’s.

Phase 1 of the Elyson Town Center is planned to open June 2025. There are three planned phases.

More Places to Live
The second floor of Elyson Town Center will be apartment buildings. Phase 1 is expected to deliver 47 total apartments.

Katy is also full of new communities. We’ve already discussed Elyson, but there is also Sunterra, Anniston, more homes coming to Cande Island, and more.

Katy ISD is Building New Schools
The northwest quadrant continues to be the fastest growing area of Katy. The proof is in Katy ISD’s building and planning of new schools to meet the demand. This academic year, Nelson Junior High and Freeman High School opened off of Katy Hockley and Logenbaugh Road.

The District is currently constructing two new elementary schools in the area that are set to open fall 2025. At last night’s school board meeting, the District opened the naming process for elementary schools #47 and #48. Katy ISD takes great pride and care in the naming of their schools after namesakes that have made a difference to the District and the Katy area.

As residents and businesses continue to move to Katy, there is no sign to a slowdown in the growth to our area.
